ASTOR PIAZZOLA - RHYTHMS OF NUEVO TANGO
January 10th, 2025 at 7:00 PM
By candlelight, in the intimate setting of the Fryderyk Concert Hall, the music of Astor Piazzolla will unfold – the genius of tango nuevo, who fused the passion and drama of tango with the sophistication of classical music and the freedom of jazz. The evening will immerse listeners in a world of emotion, pulsating rhythms, and lyrical melancholy, where bandoneon, voice, and string quartet intertwine to tell a story of love, desire, and longing.
Klaudiusz Baran – accordion, bandoneon
An outstanding accordionist and bandoneonist, professor and former Rector of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw (2016–2024). The first in Poland to bring the bandoneon to concert stages, he is particularly acclaimed for his interpretations of Astor Piazzolla’s tango nuevo and contemporary music. A laureate of prestigious awards, including three Fryderyk Awards, and a recipient of the Gold Medal “Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis” (2024). He has performed with Poland’s leading orchestras and collaborated with eminent artists. Celebrated for his charisma, artistry, and for redefining the place of the accordion in Polish musical culture.
Jagoda Sokołowska-O’Donovan – mezzo-soprano, flutist, cultural manager, architect of the Fryderyk Concert Hall
A versatile artist and organizer of musical life. She graduated with distinction from the Academy of Music in Kraków. A laureate of national and international competitions, she has performed across Europe, Asia, and North America. Her artistry was praised by Jerzy Waldorff – a renowned Polish music critic, essayist, and cultural promoter – who described her as “an exceptionally talented artist… an outstanding musical personality.” She is the founder and director of the Fryderyk Concert Hall in Warsaw – a unique venue inspired by the era of Chopin and 19th-century music salons, where she combines artistic activity with a vision of modern cultural patronage.
